Ingredients

450 grams of Potatoes

1 tablespoon of Butter (This is for cooking)

Salt

Pepper (Only a bit)

Method

1

Prepare the potatoes: Peel the potatoes. Grate them using a coarse grater. Than keep it in clean water when they are peeled.

2

Remove moisture: Squeeze out excess water using a clean towel or your hands. This helps make it crispy.

3

Season: Add a pinch of salt and pepper. Mix gently.

4

Heat the pan: Use a frying pan on medium heat. Add butter and let it melt.

5

Shape the Rösti: Add the grated potatoes to the pan. Press it down into a flat, round shape.

6

Cook first side Cook for about 10 minutes until golden and crispy underneath. Flip Place a plate over the pan, flip the Rösti onto it, then slide it back into the pan. Cook second side Cook another 5–10 minutes until crispy. Now just serve immediately when off the pan.

Notes

This is one large Rösti so it should be about 3 servings. Don’t stir while cooking because this helps form a crispy crust. Use enough butter for better flavor and crispiness. For best results, use slightly pre-cooked (boiled) potatoes and let them cool before grating.
